REVEALED: A chance meeting with Prakash Jha in Tirupati convinced Tusshar Kapoor to become a single parent

Tusshar Kapoor’s book 'Bachelor Dad: My Journey To Fatherhood And More' is finally out. The actor, in this book, revealed how he took the decision of becoming a single father and how his life changed after the birth of his son, Lakshhya. The most interesting part of the book is when he revealed that it was a chance meeting with Prakash Jha that determined him to take the plunge. Many would wonder how and when did Tusshar Kapoor meet the prolific filmmaker; after all, they have never worked together. Then, how did Prakash Jha manage to convince Tusshar to opt for the life-changing decision?

Tusshar Kapoor wrote in the book that he was already thinking about becoming a ‘bachelor dad’. In May 2015, he decided to visit Tirupati to seek Lord Balaji’s blessings after his adult comedy Mastizaade (2016) faced problems while getting a censor certificate.

Tusshar went by an early morning flight to the temple town and the passenger in the next seat turned out to be Prakash Jha. He was going there to seek blessings before starting work on his film, Jai GangaaJal (2016). Like Tusshar, he, too, was supposed to fly back the next day in the afternoon but on a different flight. Since both were from the same fraternity, they began chatting.

The next day, at 4:00 am, Tusshar Kapoor woke up and walked up the hill to the main shrine at Tirumala. After seeking blessings, he was back in his hotel room at 8:30 am. Tusshar wrote that he was about to doze off for a few hours when he was informed that his flight had been cancelled and that he could only fly from Tirupati airport the next day. However, alternatively, he can go to Chennai by road and fly from there to Mumbai on an evening flight. Tusshar then stated that even Prakash Jha’s flight was cancelled and he contacted Tusshar to find out what to do next. Both then decided to take the same car to Chennai and fly by the same flight.

While they were on their way to the Chennai airport, Prakash Jha happened to ask Tusshar Kapoor about his marriage plans. While discussing this topic, Prakash Jha mentioned being a single parent. Tusshar wrote at this point, “I knew something felt right, that some divine intervention was already beginning to manifest itself.”

He also enlightened the actor about IVF and surrogacy procedures and how he happened to know a certain Ruprani Parikh whose daughter recently became a single mother. The filmmaker then instantly called Mrs Parikh and gave the phone to Tusshar. The lady from Mumbai assured Tusshar Kapoor that she’ll help him in understanding the procedure and even take him to the doctor.

Prakash then narrated his own experience of single-handedly raising a girl child. “I recall him (Prakash Jha) speaking about taking his baby to his film and television shoots and his memories of multitasking, feeding the baby in between the shots,” mentioned the actor in the book.

This conversation with Prakash Jha became a turning point for him. It strengthened his belief in becoming a parent all by himself. The actor, however, was amazed at how it all panned out. “I couldn’t believe this had all played out as a result of some flight cancellations,” marvelled the Golmaal (2006) actor.
