Indian Idol season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant takes a dig at the show; says they are peddling fake love stories and drama
Of late, the current season of the popular reality singing shows Indian Idol 12 has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Days after the show was criticised for its unflattering tribute to Kishore Kumar, season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant, has indirectly slammed Indian Idol for not focusing on music.
In an interview with a TV news channel, Abhijeet said that Hindi reality shows are more focused on the poor and tragic background of a participant instead of their talent. He also said that regional reality shows are doing better and that the viewers of the shows barely have any idea about the contestant’s background and focus only on their singing abilities.
Abhijeet who won the Indian Idol season 1 in 2008 said that during his time on the show, he had once forgotten the lyrics to the song he was singing. He said that back then the judges had decided among themselves to give him a second chance. He further said that had the same incident happened in today's time, it would have been served to the audience with dramatic effects. He also said that viewers are to be held responsible as the Hindi language audience is always looking out for more spice. He also said that the show is peddling fake love stories ad drama.
Talking about the controversial Kishore Kumar tribute episode, Sawant said that it wasn't fair to compare any singer to the legendary Kishore Kumar.
